| Let me hasten to say, Corporal Friederich Schiess is not part of our Schiess ancestry. | |
| Nevertheless I thought it is a good story to tell how Friederich helped the British | |
| Natal Native Contingent to heroically defeat 4000 Zulu Warriors at Rorke’s Drift | |
| in 1879. | |
| He is the only Swiss to ever receive the Victoria Cross. | |
